Did you know that 98% of all personal care products contain one or more ingredients that have never been publicly assessed for safety?
The cosmetics industry uses thousands of synthetic chemicals in its products, in everything from lipsticks, lotions and shampoos. We believe that carcinogens have no place in cosmetics and personal care products. Yet the United States government does not systematically assess the safety of personal care products.
The cosmetic manufacturers may use almost any raw material as an ingredient and market the product without approval from the FDA. In fact, the FDA does not even require a company to do safety testing of their products before marketing.
Why are so many potentially hazardous ingredients used in skincare?
They are cheap! These ingredients are readily available and easy to dilute. Just because it’s on the label doesn’t mean its safe.
The cosmetic industry is a multi-billion dollar business which is not regulated by the FDA. Many of the standards are completely out dated in contrast to what we know today about the skin and it’s ability to absorb anything into the body. Currently, the cosmetic and beauty industries are exempt from FDA regulations since they do not fall under the classification of “Drug”. This is silly considering how many drugs today are now applied thru skin patches and the revelation of potentially cancer causing ingredients having been absorbed into the skin for years possibly being a direct link to some cancers, including breast cancer.
